Introduction to Event Management
In this class, my group of 5 was given the opportunity to plan an event with a reception, four-course meal and entertainment for close to 100 people while making and following our own budget and a strict timeline. My group was given the opportunity to have our event come alive the following semester. Click here to see how it turned out!

Culinary Arts and Menu Management
This class was fun because every week we would meet in the kitchen lab to make a different category of food including soups, breakfast, entrees etc. We were given a recipe to follow and a time limit which showed us the importance of working in a group. We learned how to manage our time wisely. The other portion of the class was in the classroom learning specifics on how to design a menu, and go over different techniques.

Supervisory Hospitality Internship
Before entering your senior year, Hospitality students are required to complete a 400 hour internship during this 10 week designed course. This class gave us real world experiences while completing weekly assignments based on different topics such as customer service, management behaviors and critical incidents. I did my internship at Piping Rock Club, NY as a food and beverage intern. This internship taught me a lot about working with members, special events and fine dining.

General Business Minor
Every Hart School student is required to take a general business minor which includes six business classes through the JMU College of business. These courses included Accounting, Finance, Computer Information Systems, Management, Marketing and Microeconomics. All of these courses were extremely beneficial in learning the business aspect of the industry.
